About the Author
Mike Conti has been a proud member of the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) since 1986. During his career he has been fortunate to have worked with some of the finest police officers in the US while performing in functions ranging from uniformed patrol, high-crime area community policing, SWAT, and special security details to undercover narcotics and death investigations. He has been involved as a professional trainer since 1991 and holds numerous instructor certifications in various use of force disciplines. In January 2000, Conti was tasked by then Superintendent of the MSP, Colonel John DiFava, to organize, staff, and train the first fulltime Firearms Training Unit (FTU) for the department. During the creation of the FTU, Conti developed a firearms training program specifically geared to preparing police officers for the realities of the lethal force encounter. This successful program, dubbed The New Paradigm of Police Firearms Training, has received nation-wide attention and been profiled by the Law Enforcement Training Network (LETN). The New Paradigm was also the subject of a series of articles written by Conti that appeared in his column in Guns & Ammo magazine while he served as Law Enforcement Contributing Editor. Response to those articles from law enforcement officers all across the United States inspired the creation of this book. In 2001, Colonel DiFava presented Conti with the MSP Medal of Merit for the creation of the New Paradigm Training Program. In 2003, Conti was awarded the prestigious Commonwealth of Massachusetts Citation for Outstanding Performance for work performed during the development and administration of training programs for both the FTU and the MSP Logan International Airport Anti-Terrorist Unit (ATU). In addition to his work for the MSP, Conti has written two other books, In the Line of Fire: A Working Cop’s Guide to Pistolcraft (1997), and Beyond Pepper Spray: The Complete Guide to Chemical Agents, Delivery Systems, and Protective Masks (2002), both published by Paladin Press. He has also had more than 100 articles published in various local and national publications. |
